Who is Alexandra? Alexandra Nicole Trujilio Alexandra is currently a nursing student at Middlesex County College, she migrated here at the age of five. Alexandra was born in Lima, Peru in a small village overlooking a mountain. A young girl was born a dreamer, she had plans on becoming a veterinarian because she was always compassionate in helping those who needed saving. Her passion for helping people started at an early age. Alexandra prefers to be called “Alex” as most people and her peers know her as “Alex”. She’s a young spirit filled with hope and curiosity of the world around her. Her legacy is for her name to have impact and meaning to those she meets. It all begins with one relative taking the big step and introducing their family to a better life. For Alex it was her brave aunt who took it upon herself to go through a journey of waiting 10 years for an approved residency. When Alex was five coming into this country her number one struggle was the language barrier. She had no way to introduce her story or communicate and make friends. Alex at an early age had to attend a school that taught English, Alex mentioned in our conversation how her mother used her first paycheck to pay for these classes that would help her daughter speak the language of English. What inspired Alex to pursue an education in Middlesex, was the inspiration of her Mother. When she was in middle school her Mother became really sick and this had a huge impact in her life. Especially when she would miss school days due to her mothers sickness. She was hugely affected by the language barrier at hospitals and clinics when her mother was mistreated due to not speaking english. She talks about how the nurses couldn't help her appropriately because they couldnt speak spanish. Today Alex is fluent in both Spanish and English, and even took it upon herself to learn sign language. Goes to show that Alex's biggest goal is to be able to communicate with the world and be able to help others. Alex's American dream is to make her parents happy. They’re hard work drives her motivation, she’s seen them at their lowest and wants to become an accomplished young woman and pay it all back to those who gave her this life.
